Importance of Bioinformatics

Importance of bioinformatics :

* Genome sequencing is the major breakthrough, by which, the genome of several organisms, including humans, are sequenced, mapped and stored in the database.

* These genome databases will provide new avenues for advances in medicine, biotechnology, genetics, evolutionary studies, etc.

* Studies on these genomes have promoted researches on the etiologies of various diseases like cancer, cystic fibrosis, liver disease, etc.

* The analysis of similarities between the DNA sequence of different organisms is also opening new avenues in the study of evolution.

* Bioinformatics also leads to the study of genetic diversity in an ecosystem.

* Scientists can now see the proteins through the sequence, folding patterns, 2-degree structure, domain and 3-dimensional structure available in the database.

* With the protein database scientists study its function, role in various diseases, its position in a metabolic pathway of a cell, etc.

* As a whole Bioinformatics has influenced various branches of life science from evolution to Nanotechnology.

BIOINFORMATICS GAINED ITS IMPORTANT THROUGH HUMAN GENOME PROJECT (H G P)
