C3 plants | Description :
* Example of these plants are Wheat , oats , barley , rice , cotton , beans , spinach , sunflower , chlorella etc .
* Carbon pathway in photosynthesis is C3 pathway i.e; Calvin cycle only .
* First stable product of above carbon pathway is 3C compound phosphoglyceric acid (PGA) .
* The leaves have diffused mesophyll and only one type of chloroplast .
* Optimum temperature for photosynthesis is low to high .
* Photorespiration occurs .
* Photosynthetically less efficient .
* Carbon dioxide compensation point is high about 50ppm .
* Rate of CO2 evolution in light is higher and carbonic anhydrase activity is higher .* C3 plants perform carbon fixation through PGA.
* Characteristics: one type of chloroplast, no distinct bundle sheath.
* Rate of transloaction of end product of photosynthesis low & optimum temperature for growth is low to high .
